In vivo single unit spinal cord and peripheral nerve
Cerebrasol have unrivalled experience in using electrophysiology to determine the effects of test compounds in neural pathways associated with pain as well as from a huge variety of pain models in the central and peripheral nervous system of the intact animal.
Common application of these techniques include examining efficacy, determining minimum effect dose and, uniquely, establishing the site of action; through isolation of aspects of the relevant pathway. Some of the electrophysiological assays we routinely perform are listed below:-
- Ectopic discharge in the sciatic/sural nerve in neuropathic pain models
- Wide dynamic range neurones in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord
- Assessing fibre-type and conduction velocity
- Recording from third order neurones in the thalamus
